Company Culture
All are Leaders
We recruit the most skilled, compassionate professionals and then we empower them to do their job well. Transformative ideas can come from anyone. Everyone in our team-based organization has the opportunity to shape our company for the better.
People over profits
We are a relationship-based organization.
We prioritize the best interests of the people we serve, our Providers, and our staff.

Ownership Mindset
We are the only 100% employee-owned human services agency in Virginia. Research proves that employee-owners are more committed to quality, and we see that every day here at Wall.
Diversity is a Strength
We believe that diversity is a positive thing for our company, our services, and our communities. All people have unique talents and perspectives to offer. The lives of all are improved by interacting with and learning from people from many backgrounds, life experiences, and abilities.
Community Inclusion
We believe all people thrive in community and deserve the opportunity to form the relationships that involvement in the community naturally provides.

Seek First to Understand®
Our founders and our company culture have been deeply influenced by Stephen R. Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, especially Habit #5, “Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood®.” We strive to listen and work with each person from where they are, helping them to move forward in the way that is right for them.

Look Beyond a Label
Person-centered thinking, language, and planning are at the center of all we do.
Person-Centered Thinking
Our services are designed around the needs and preferences of the individual being supported. Factors such as structure, environment, and social preferences are thoughtfully considered to ensure the fit for meaningful support.
Person-Centered Language
Person-centered language recognizes the individual first and places any disability-related information second. It acknowledges diagnoses as one aspect of a person, not their defining characteristic. We follow the teachings of author Kathy Snow, widely recognized as a leading authority on Person-First Language.
Person-Centered Planning
All of our services include the use of person-centered planning, characterized by the following elements:
- The individual is the focus of planning and those who love the person are the primary authorities on the person’s life direction. The essential questions are “Who is this person?” and “What community opportunities will enable this person to pursue his or her interests in a meaningful way?”
- Person-centered planning aims to change common patterns of community life. It stimulates community hospitality and enlists community members in assisting focus people to define and work toward a desirable future. It helps create positive community roles for people with disabilities.
- Person-centered planning requires learning through shared, collaborative action. It fundamentally challenges practices that separate people and perpetuate controlling relationships.
- Honest person-centered planning can only come from respect for the dignity and completeness of the focus person.
- Assisting people to define and pursue a desirable future tests one’s clarity, commitment, and courage.
